Default 3rd Party Software/Hardware Links

Forum members often talk about 3rd party Hardware or Software without linking where to find it.

The purpose of this thread will be to store a link to all such software in one central location.

We will link to software for music management, 3rd party Sonos controllers, home automation etc.

If you have some software to add to the list, please post below and I'll copy/paste into this first post.

Default For Mac

Tag (free): Mac-compatible tag editor for for Flac, Ogg Vorbis, Monkey's Audio, and Wavpack audio files.

MediaRage ($): Mac-compatible tag editor for MP3, AAC/MP4, FLAC, AIFF, WAVE, BWF, and Ogg Vorbis audio files.

Did you want ripping programs? Can be hard to find software to rip to Flac on the Mac and Max (from the same guy as Tag) is good, and is free. Toast 7 can also do it, but is expensive and not as good.

xACT is another one.

Music Mangement -
www.moodlogic.com Boasts automatic identification of mp3 files. Works well but as another Sonos mentioned doesn't seem to identify classical works very well.

I like to use MusicBrainz to automatically tag MP3 files. It's awesome, because it looks at the actual audio file content (regardless of format, size, compression rate etc) and determines WHAT song this is, and tags appropriately.

I guess YMMV on accuracy, but works for me almost every single time!

Default Tagging / Album Art in Mac OS X

Hi Folks - my Sonos is coming sometime today, and I've been frantically trying to rip the hundreds of albums I don't already have in my library.

After reading through the forums I found out about iTunes 7 album artwork and the fact that it doesn't embed the image in the id tag. I downloaded the itunes script found in the FAQ and have been using it - but found that it lacks the kind of verification that I'm used to.

Long story short - I found an application in OS X that I absolutely LOVE. It's called CoverScout ($20). It is incredibly easy to view/verify that artwork is part of the id tag, and it also allows you to visually grab/apply artwork on the fly. Very slick. Granted it isn't free like the iTunes script, but imo it's worth $20.

btw, Mac OS X only:

TunesSleeve is a free albumart program for use with iTunes, and support for Google-search when TunesSleeve doesn't find albumart for your (odd) albums. Pictures are replaced simply with drag-and-drop, and are embedded into the actual song file for display on any player including the Sonos controller.

D-Link DNS-323 is a handy and quiet NAS disk supporting RAID 0 and 1. Details about modifying (e.g. installing additional server software) is found on the DNS323Wiki. My own experience with the product is found in the technology section of my own blog.
