toby_mills,
This idea's already been mentioned. To prevent the forum getting untidy with repeated threads, I've merged your post with the existing discussion on this.

Cheers,

Keith

I can also see myself wanting this functionality. In addition to having the lock, it would be nice to have lock out times... Using the hot tub example: Between 2am and 8am (or whatever) lock it out and set volumn to nil. Well, the time portion at least, the second part could be done via an alarm.

Default Guest Room Restrictions - A big Upsell oppt'y

I've seen a couple of threads but want to re-itterate that having the ability to lock a controller/Zone to a room e.g parental control or guest facitlity would be excellent.

I can't afford a controller per zone in the off chance of visitors but to tie a controller to a zone temporarily while a guest is staying would be the perfect option.

Sonos, you're missing a big opporutnity here, if you can do this, everyone who stays with a Sonos fan will be a convert and think of all the extra Zones that you'll sell by addidng such a simple facility

This is a very much needed feature for the same reason as the thread starter mentioned.

I hope this gets resolved in a fully integrated manner. I would like certain controllers being able to control the whole system and one or two controllers only being able to manage a specific Zone.

In the mean time I would like to implement the system suggested by the previous poster. Could someone briefly explain how I should do this?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Fluit,

The way to do this is to set up two (or more) different groups of associated ZPs.

Select the ZP and controller you want to keep separate and do the following:

IMPORTANT: I BELIEVE THE ZP NEEDS TO BE WIRED FOR THIS TO WORK - CAN ANYONE CONFIRM?

1. Factory reset the ZP (disconnect power, then hold down the mute button and plug it in until the amber light begins to flash.

2. Factory Reset the controller (System Settings -> Advanced Settings)

3. Follow the setup process on the controller, pressing the MUTE & VOL+ buttons on the selected ZP when prompted (do not touch any other ZP)

4. The ZP and controller should be associated. You can now configure this group to point to your music files.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Keith

That's correct, at least 1 ZonePlayer in each unique group, or "household" as we call it, needs to have a wired connection to your network as ZonePlayers in different "households" will never connect together wirelessly.

The isolated unit will essentially be a separate SONOS system sharing the same music and internet connection.

At the same time, this isolated ZonePlayer is also a "first ZonePlayer" and must be wired to the network. It is possible to run a wire from any ZonePlayer in the original scheme. In this case both SONOS systems view the other as just something on the network. The two systems do not interoperate in any way. This means that the hand held controllers will be dedicated to their respective systems, and you'll need to set-up the second system from scratch (Internet radio stations, Rhapsody account, etc). This also implies that synchronized play between the two systems will not be possible, but they could play the same music.

Note that the three stream Rhapsody limit is for the Rhapsody account, not the SONOS system.

Your desktop controller will control one system or the other. Different computers could be assigned to each SONOS system or a given desktop controller can be Reset, then assigned to the other SONOS system from the Help menu.

Thanks for help! I think I will try to set up the system as described, at least as an intermediate solution.

Still hope that Sonos will create a more integrated and complete solution and put into next upgrade....

Indeed integrating this support to allow some controller to control all zones and some only certain zones is more flexible than effectively creating totally separate systems.

Default Password for controller

Okay - we all know that Sonos is fantastic for parties.

But.......my biggest pet peeve is the guest who insists that they can pick better music than the host or whatever is playing on Pandora at the time.

Please please - can you add a password option so that the controller can be locked.

Make it optional so if people don't want to use - then fine.

Perhaps use the settings options to set it and then use on the 3 lower buttons to "activate" whenever needed.

While I know no one wants to have to type anything in - perhaps you can have a 9 symbol keypad accessed using the wheel so you can quickly enter the code.

Keypad doesn't need to be numbers - could be symbols or colors or common letters that can make simple 4 or 5 letter words.

Please save me from the curse of constant music changing by my guests!!!!!!!!!!
