Default Play 5 - No internet connection Query

Quick and pontentially stupid question!

Just moved home and bought a Play 5 now I haven't got broadband yet as its due to be installed in a few weeks but I managed to setup my Play 5 by bridging it to my mobile broadband via my PC and it works fine however all I'm really bothered about using it for until I get proper broadband is as a line in for my iPad.

Is there anyway for me to use it just for line in without it being bridged to an Internet connection via my PC?

I had read that air didn't need an Internet connection to work just a network and I wondered if connecting an Apple Airport express would give it the wifi network needed albeit without any connection to the Internet.
