Default Better volume control in iOS at low volume

I have two play:3's in a stereo pair behind the bed. When listening to music at very low levels, it's impossible to decrease the volume via iOS because the area is too small.

Please consider adding trim buttons, -or- making the volume bar, when set at either extreme, "zoom in" so micro adjustments are possible.

I changed the thread title slightly, to distinguish it from the frequent appeals for +/- buttons before the user is informed that the volume bar can be tapped either side of the slider.

As a matter of interest, if the Play:3s are very close at hand can you not simply use the hardware buttons on a P3 itself, or is the granularity too coarse for your needs?

Hey Ratty -- yeah it's a good idea, but the play:3's are positioned in such a way that accessing them isn't convenient. (They _can_ be, but it's an odd-angle reach.)

Actually what I'm going to do (and what I did in another room) is use a tabletop home automation controller to adjust the volume. It typically controls lights, but instead will just send a packet to the units to raise/lower the volume by 1.

I haven't tried doing this with a paired set before, so this will be interesting...

Default Volume control with iOS or Android is sub-optimal

I 100% agree.

The slider in the iOS or Android apps
is much to small for an easy adjustment
of the volume or for an adjustments in
small steps or to a precise (re-producible)
level.

But since this is most likely the function
which is most often used (adjusting the
volume) it should be implemented in a
more user friendly manner.

Thanks for considering ....

Actually, I find micro adjustments difficult across the entire range of the contoller apps, not just at the extremes.

It would help if the Android apps supported landscape. I am very disappointed that such a simple request has still not made it (into 3.8). My most frequently used controller is a widescreen tablet

If the volume slider is somewhere in the middle range, there's an easy-to-perform fine-adjustment technique of tapping on the volume bar to the right or left of the volume marker. The tapping technique gets difficult when the you want to turn the volume down starting from an already low level or go up from an already high volume level.

If you are trying to get a very low volume, slide the volume all the way to the left, and then "tap" the volume up to the desired level.

Default tapping

Tapping the volume moves it up incrementally.

Note that the android controller will also allow to use your phone or tablet's physical volume buttons to adjust the Sonos volume. Unfortunately, Apple blocks that for its devices.
