Default Music Library

Evening all,

Just got a play 3 and bridge today. Got it all set up so that i can play radio through the speakers. i,m trying to add my music to the system but keep getting access denied message. my music is in mp3 and stored on a external hard drive which is plugged into my comp. it wont let me use other music that is stored directly on my comp either. i'm trying - set up music library - add a share - music on this comp - then the music folder in the root. ive set sharing on the folders so am at a bit of a loss.

any help appreciated

cheers

Gazza,

First post! Welcome to the forums.

Please describe your system for us. Which hard drive are you using? Is it connected via USB? Is this a PC or Mac? Are you using a firewall?

Check this FAQ and make sure that your firewall is setup correctly.

Is your computer wireless? If so, there could be a router or firewall configuration setting that is blocking access to the computer from the local network.

Default Corrupt index?

Sonos seems to have lost track of certain files in my library. This is after upgrading to sonos controller 3.5. The files do not even appear in the "Folders" view. I've tried re-indexing and even re-installing Sonos Controller to no solution. The files exist and I can play them in iTunes. I can't tell how many or what portion are missing since Sonos has no library stats, but no folder with a name beyond the letter "I" nor some 10-20% of ones with names before "I" ????

Found library stats and am well below limits:
Track Summary
Title
MAX 65000
COUNT 8615
Store Size 3604480
Store Used 433724
Entries Size 262144
Entries Used 13981
Conflicts 484

iTunes 10.4
Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Welcome to the forums.

Try disabling all firewalls temporarily. This FAQ may be of use: https://sonos.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/s...hp?p_faqid=692

ok, spent over 2 hours on phone with Sonos tech support. It seems SOMETHING in the folder with Indigo Girls was messing with the indexing, but neither of us know what it was. I moved one sub-folder out to main folder, still no index, then I moved one song from that sub-folder out to main folder and VOILA? how this was causing error he said NO IDEA since there was nothing in the diagnostics, no error messages, NOTHING! I suspect it's something to do with latest controller update but there is no current way to prove it.

For some time (since well before 3.5) there have been sporadic reports of indexing halting, apparently as a result of encountering a rogue file/folder that is in some way corrupted. Removing the offending item allowed indexing to complete.

If you were able to re-create the blocking file/folder in question you may find that the problem disappears.

ok - sure. but wouldnt the offending file be identified in the diagnostics? Support tech (Charles) could not see ANY error in log files and diagnostics

and to be clear, I didnt remove the file/folder I just moved it to a higher level sub folder (I am not near 10 sub folder limit) in any case, when indexing encounters a rouge file it should move on, not completely bomb without any error messages.
