Default believe it or not but I'm an end user

To all this people here who claim that all the people who are requesting this feature are only integreators. I prove you wrong. Everyone who uses a Remote App like iRule or Redeye or another app who allows to start apps using a url scheme needs this. As Sonos offers absolutely no other kind of integration, adding the custom url would be the minimum I expect. I use IRule for controlling my AV equipment and the only thing I can not integreate is starting the sonos controller because sonos is so stubborn and can not even dedicate time for a 1 minute change.

Oh and about informing ourselves. I bought my sonos system before I used the Remote App, but I made sense to me to control both from my iPad. That sonos is not able to make this work for years, is also in my opinion really a lack of interest in customers and I doubt I would ever buy a sonos system again as end user because it seems sonos simply doesn't care if even such small change requests go unnoticed.

oh and another word about integreators. I believe that quite a lot of people who spend a lot of money for a multiroom music system request the help of an integreator to help them making up their dicisions. So if integrators become bored of sonos the will no longer suggest sonos and that may affect sonos sales.

So who cares if this change is for end users like me or integrators. Sonos is ignorant, thats proven by so many forum posts. If you want to start another debate about this, don't hesitate. I won't participate, cause I made my point.

Actually, I believe you made my point, quite effectively I may add.

Sonos has never commented on this, and very, very rarely comment on any future development. Matter of fact, that has been one of the major complaints in this very thread. Might you have meant "thats proven by a lack of forum posts?"

  • Google for iExplorer, this will allow you to find the Sonos directory on your iPad/iPhone
  • Once you've installed this find the file info.plist under the Sonos directory and copy it to your desktop
  • Google for pList editor for Windows
  • Make a copy of the info.plist on your c drive as a back up in case you wreck the one you're going to edit
  • Edit the info.plist and look for the entry below

<key>CFBundleSupportedPlatforms</key>
<array>
<string>iPhoneOS</string>
</array>

Directly under that put the following: -

<key>CFBundleURLTypes</key>
<array>
<dict>
<key>CFBundleURLName</key>
<string>SonosCommand</string>
<key>CFBundleURLSchemes</key>
<array>
<string>Sonos</string>
</array>
</dict>
</array>

Save your changes then copy the info.plist back on to your iPad/iPhone. Restart it and then you should be able to use Sonos:// as a URL from wherever you like to open the Sonos controller. I've got it firing from Demopad and it works a treat.

If Sonos do a new release (and don't include this setting) then you'll have to do the same thing again after upgrading.

HTH

Update: It stops the Sonos controller from loading if the iPad is reset. I have to copy the backup info.plist, start Sonos and then copy the updated one. Not ideal
Hey there, does this really work?

3.8.1 here for ios. No custom URL to launch the sonos app. Another missed opportunity to improve usability/integration on ios.

Like the hard button vol controls but i would have rather had a sonos:// url to launch the controller app!

Default Another message in support

Hi,

As a long time Sonos user & app developer, here's my plea for pushing this feature higher up in the priority list.

Some strategic advantages:

App integrations can be a very effective advertising and lead generation for Sonos systems. Music apps written by Sonos fans will invariably include "Open in Sonos" options and that will drive awareness & sales.

On the iPhone, URLs are really the only easy way for another app to detect if something is installed. Music apps could open a sonos:// url to see if the user owns a Sonos device and provide integration.

Seamlessness is a key feature I buy from a Sonos system. Whenever there's a crack in seamlessness, I am a little more inclined to consider something else (like airplay). Allowing other apps to link deeply into Sonos will improve the rewarding experience and create a barrier for entry for competing solutions.

First version can be simple. Perhaps only allows linking explicitly to supported services. Once you have this support, you can canvas Spotify, Shazam and others to link to Sonos app from within their apps. This could work as a driver for Sonos sales, seamlessness for your users and something you get back from your partners you support.

cheers,
vipul

Well said. This is long overdue (as old as the ios app itself!) and is so simple to fix (30 secs for the team who publish the new app). Every sonos ios release i eagerly hammer away at potential ios urls that may have been created for the sonos app... so far always disappointed! Come on sonos give us an early xmas present :-)

Default Roomie Remote 1.6

This latest version of the universal remote control now has fairly functional support for Sonos. Note that you need to buy the additional HD Guide support to get the Sonos features. Select songs, playlists, radio stations and Pandora music services. I am guessing other music services will also be supported with updates.

Also supports gouping zones.

Just bought another Sonos set for my new home, despite lacking the URL Scheme... Did however make some fuzz to the dealer about it, so hopefully some big sellers will complain to Sonos about this quite annoying lack of response.
