Hi - I know the alarm/clock feature has been debated a lot, but on a quick search I didn't see a thread on a separate clock radio. It's kind of a frivolous idea, but there have been lots of times when I thought it would be great to have a small device to sit on my bedside table and connect with my Sonos network.
One could certainly use a zone player and speakers in the bedroom to the same end, but the clock radio option would be a lot more appealing in terms of size and would be sufficient re: sound quality too. David |

Hi
Don't know exactly what you mean by clock/radio but I'm in the process of decorating a few rooms in the house. While I could move a ZP and speakers from one room to where I am, it would be fantastic to have a small self contained ZP + speakers. Perhaps similar to the AE WiFi radio, but better? Having a rechargeable, portable, self contained ZP would be very handy.

I think the target device would be like a Bose Wave, or a Cambridge SoundWorks radio, but with Sonos functionality. If it included a single CD slot, it would be an easy way to hear a CD around the house that hadn't yet been ripped.

You guys are after a boom box, not a clock/radio.
A separate thread suggests this. |

One could always purchase the RokuLabs SoundBridge Radio...
I had one before my Sonos and it worked exceptionally well. In one regard it was better than the Sonos, it actually displayed the accurate time on the screen. I didn't have to press a couple of buttons to allow the screen to refresh ![]()

The main issue is that if you want a cheap clock/radio there are already hundreds of them on the market.
Sonos really can't add much value to this. |

I'd like to have a tabletop combination BoseWave/Sonos/Controller or Boston Accoustics/Sonus/Controller all in one box. First you don't have to deal with a cradle/charging etc which is one of the shortcomings of the controllers. I have to constantly stay on top of keeping them charged. Right now I have my Sonos ZP80 plugged into my Boston Accoustics MicroSystem with a charging cradle beside it. Three power cords where there could be one! I would rather the controller be built in since it basically just sits on the nightstand.
I keep dreaming about video on the controller screen but I know DRM issues etc probably keep your attorneys up at night so I figure it won't happen anytime soon although I love the way my movies show up on my imported itunes playlists. Such a tease. |
