Default Desktop controller and Airport Express

I have an older Mac Pro with no built-in WLAN, so I am using an Airport Express to access my Airport Extreme WLAN router. It is set up in "access network" mode rather than the "extend network" mode.

The Desktop Controller cannot find the Zoneplayers on the network, although my iPhone and a Macbook Pro laptop attached to the same Airport Extreme network have no problem. The problem seems to be the Airport Express client. Any idea how to fix this?

I am running the latest version of Mac OS X and Desktop Controller.

I use airport base station and airport express units.

I assume you have your airport express units that are connected via ethernet to the airport base station.

You want to set your airport express to create a wireless network, and have it the exact name / password of the network created by the airport base station.

On the 'internet' tab, set it to use DHCP and at the bottom, set it to 'bridge mode' -

That should allow your computer with controller to see the entire network regardless of the access point it connects to.

good luck -

No, not quite. My Airport Express talks to the basestation/router (Airport Extreme) wirelessly. The Airport Express is just acting like a network card in the computer, joining an existing wireless network. The client computer that cannot locate the Sonos boxes is connected to the Express using ethernet.

So it is...

Client - Ethernet - Express - wireless - Extreme

and the Sonos box accesses the network by ethernet connection to the Extreme.

Functionally this is equivalent to a laptop with built in wifi joining a the wireless network. But unlike my laptop, my client connected using Express cannot locate the Sonos.

It may be that the express has some sort of packet filtering or firewall function, although I cant seem to locate that in the airport utility. It certainly isnt needed in this application.

dgmesser,

As a test, have you tried wiring the problem client directly to the Extreme (or a ZonePlayer)? This would help rule out firewall issues on the problem client.
