I vaguely remember reading that one back at the end of last year or something. It's a perfect rebuttal-explanation of the newbie reaction I had. So I guess the final word on this, for the thread title especially, is that itunes 8 is prob. ok for doing apple lossless, and another app. could be used for flac, though the question as to which one that implements that best on mac os x is still open.
