Default Is playbar suitable for me?

Hi,

I'm considering getting a Sonos system, starting with the playbar.

I have a 55" Samsung UA55D8000 TV, and a Sony STR-DA5600ES amp, and a marantz active subwoofer (part of the old mcubed speaker set, but the speakers have disappeared).

Questions:

1. Can I use my Sony amp to output to the playbar? Is this normal, or should I output from the TV??

2. Can I use my existing Sub? Or do I have to buy the Sonos sub??

3. Is the playbar the best option for this setup? I like it as I don't have to wire rear speakers... and it's not super expensive. But maybe I'm going down that wrong path??

Thanks!!

Timbos,

First post! Welcome to the forums.

Currently, do you have any speakers other than the subwoofer? What audio and video components will be attached to the Receiver?

Thanks Buzz!

I only have 1 Mission M-Cube speaker... The others are gone (stupid me forgot to take them down when we sold our house!!)

As for components:
XBox 360
Sony BD player
Apple TV (just used for movies and TV downloads)
TV as mentioned in my original post
Amp mentioned already
Sub mentioned already

That's it...

Thanks.

Timbos,

With PLAYBAR, there is no need for the SONY or the MARANTZ, but the SONY could be used as an input switcher. If the SONY offers an optical digital output and will convert DTS audio from an HDMI source to Dolby Digital or PCM, this could be an advantage. Operationally, there is no easy way to incorporate the MARANTZ in a PLAYBAR setup.

If you want to use the SONOY and traditional front speakers, there are a growing number of wireless powered speakers that would be appropriate for rear channel use. There is a relatively new wireless speaker technology that will begin to have some traction soon.
