Question 24 bit downloads?

Sorry for this question, which I know will have been answered somewhere else already , but I have fairly recently bought a couple of LPs which have come with high resolution downloads (Latest Paul Simon & Peter Gabriel albums); 24/96 I think. These do not play with the Sonos (ZP90 / ZP120 or S5), is this because the built in DACs can't handle them, or is it more than this? I ask as I am tempted to upgrade my DAC on my HiFi soon (I know the current one will not cope with 24/96), so is there any point in getting one which will read these 24/96 formats, or is it a waste of time as it will still not be able to work when plugged into my ZP90 via a Co-Ax / optical input?
Cheers,
Dave

Sonos can not at this time play 24/96 files. We do not know the reason for this, but here is a very long (and heated) thread on the subject:

In the meantime, you can transcode them to 16/44 or 16/48 (something the Sonos will play) with a tool like dBpowerAmp.

Sorry, wasted ~2 hours of my life trying to do this with the Paul Simon download. I'm a MAC user and can not be bothered learning how to downgrade something which an Artist has spent time perfecting . Will just accept that some things should just be played on vinyl

Default Playing 24 bit on Sonos

I use XLD software (Mac) to transcode FLAC 24/96 and 24/176 to 24/48 .m4a Apple Lossless files. I have these loaded up on my iPod & iPhone and can play them back through the Sonos Dock. They sound terrific - an improvement from my 16/44 FLACs. As far as I can figure out, Sonos is taking the digital stream but I would like to hear from others.

Is anyone else doing this?

you can play your 24 bit music but just not through your sonos. If you get an external dac you can connect your mac directly to is using a toslink cable (Chord Company Optichord Toslink), thats the only way to do it, every device that the music touches will need to be capable of 24 bit.
