Experience has taught me that all electronic devices kick out some RF interference. During a recent Sonos customer installation, I encountered a problem with drop-out during playback of streaming audio. It was especially apparent when all three zones were linked (party mode).
It appeared to be a classic case of wireless interference, but even after disabling ALL 2.4GHz wireless devices in the house (phone, router, wireless speakers), the problem continued. The problem turned out to be related to the Cox Cable TV Box upon which sat one of the Zoneplayers. As soon as I moved this Zoneplayer a few feet away from the Cable TV converter, All Was Right With the World. I've done installations where the Sonos equipment sat on top of or right next to another A/V component and not had problems. I have been told that cheap A/V components throw off more RF than well-constructed (ie, more expensive) equipment. This may be the case with the "free installation and converter box" scenario, but I can't really speak to that. Simply be aware of this potential problem, and hopefully this information will help someone else in the future. Last edited by Avee; Aug 20th, 2009 at 11:02 AM. Reason: Removed dealer link |
