Default Connect or Connect AMP - Will it work?

Hi Guys,

Bit of a head melt this one, but here goes.

I have a Panasonic SC-BTT290EBK Home Theatre system in my main living room, comes with its own AMP.

I would like to avail of these speakers as part of my SONOS system so I think I need either the connect or the Connect AMP Product?

Query:

The speakers only have room for one set of cables to be connected to them and these are already hardwired via standard speaker copper wire into the Blu RAY PLAYER.

I assume that to use the Connect or Connect AMP products you need speakers that have additional hard wire inputs?

Can think or another way you could use these speakers, unless the Connect/Connect AMP interfaces directly with Blu ray player?

Appreciate your help folks

Simon.

I'm not really sure I understand your wish but I try to answer as I understand it.

If you want to get Sonos "possibilities" to an existing amp the soloution is Connect.

If you want to be able to use the same speakers for two different amps it's a different question.
Is that your wish?

From the specifications for your HT amp:

Optical Input yes
Analog Audio Input
RCA yes (AUX)

So, get a Connect (NOT a Connect:AMP) and either use the optical output or the analog output from the Connect straight into the HT amp. Easy.

And I'm not going to mention that your amp can read music files directly from network storage. Oops... Sonos will be a more enjoyable experience, forget I mentioned that.

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback.

I think i understand where you are coming from lol.

Essential my "AMP" in this system is my BLU ray player so i run a connect from this to the CONNECT unit via either of the methods you mention.

I dont need to run additional speaker wire from the CONNECT unit to the speakers also....right?

Im looking to get sonos wi-fi capabilies to existing speakers through my home cinema system. I understand i will need the bridge to do this, but wasnt sure how to connect the CONNECT product.

Why advantage would the CONTACT AMP bring? Is this in the case that you dont have an AMP or in my case blu ray player which acts as the AMP?

Sorry, hope this makes sense!!

Regards

Simon

Correct, you'd select the appropriate input on the blu-ray amp thing when you want to listen to music.

You'll only need the Bridge if your home network router is nowhere near the blu-ray amp thing. If it is you can wire the Connect directly to the router.

Correct, in your case you wouldn't be able to use the Connect:AMP at all, it doesn't have the required connections for what you want to do.

Thank you so much that answers my query in full.

I suppose may as well ask the two final points while i have someone so knowledgeable!

1. Software - I intend using the IPOD touch to control the system. Will the software APP on my IPOD when i install it show all my playlists as per my itunes library?

2. Is there anyway to get the APP display from the IPOD to show on my TV screen. Assuming i dont want to wire the connection? I either connect the IPOD via WIFI to TV or unlikely, but the CONNECT unit can display to tv via a link?

Sorry, but i want to make sure i get all bases covered before i purchase.

Ta

Simon.

I don't really know anything about iTunes but I believe you can import iTunes playlists into Sonos.

Again I don't know enough about Apple hardware to answer that question.

No it can't, it has no video capability to allow it to do that.

Default Wire into the speakers?

I have the same home theatre. My surround speaker cables were far too short, so I extended them using a choc-box (to protect the joint) and using simple cable wiring to place them around the room.

I was thinking of simply wiring speakers cables straight from the back of a ZP120 into the choc-box juntion...

Advantage was that I don't need to turn the home theatre on each time to use the speakers...

Can anyone think of anything wrong with that set-up?

Welcome to the forum.

If you're considering connecting the output of the ZP120/Connect:Amp to a cable that already goes to another amplifier/receiver speaker outputs, don't. You'll be driving into the output stage of the other amp, and you (and the amp) may not care for the results, especially should both operate at the same time.

A speaker switch -- which can be an automatic model triggered on audio -- is the correct solution.

OMG thanks for that advice. Any ideas where I can get one of these switches please?
And considering I have 5 sets of surround speakers does that mean each one needs a switch?
