Welcome to the forums.

You didn't say how you're attempting to add the share to Sonos, but one assumes that it's via the Desktop Controller running on that PC and that the controller can see the Sonos player(s) without problem.

Make sure that the PC is wired. Connecting the music library via WiFi is not officially supported. That said, it will usually work with careful arrangement of WiFi and Sonos wireless channels.

You may have a firewall problem. This FAQ could prove useful: https://sonos.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/692

Yes, Desktop controller is on the PC and it can see the player with no problem.

I'm not sure if the FAQ help's me all that much because I'm using windows 7.

Is there unofficial information that I could be pointed to in order to navigate the wireless settings? My house is not wired, and my desktop has almost all of my music. If I can't get this configured, I'll be taking my anniversary present from my wife back to the store.

The FAQ I referred to deals with all common security software, on PC or Mac, so it would be worth checking out.

The reason Sonos won't officially support connecting your music library to your system wirelessly is that using WiFi can negate the benefits of Sonos' own wireless mesh network (SonosNet). WiFi is not optimised for audio streaming nor does it have the extensive internal diagnostics which SonosNet offers.

However many users do operate satisfactorily in this mode, and the optimal configuration is generally where Sonos and WiFi are placed on different wireless channels. Moreover one should only choose from 1, 6 or 11 for WiFi (to avoid overlapping adjacent channels) and should not use any '40MHz'/'wide'/'up to 300Mbps' width setting for the 2.4GHz WiFi.

You can verify the Sonos channel on the Desktop Controller via Manage/Settings/Advanced. Dealing with your router's configuration will obviously vary from router to router. If you have problems come back here with the make/model and we'll try to help.

Longer term you'd be advised to use a NAS wired to your router for storage of your music. As well as removing WiFi from the equation it means that the PC doesn't have to be left on whenever you want to play music.

Stick with it. The results will warrant the effort to overcome these teething problems. If we can't help you here you can always contact Sonos Support.
