I discovered this as my 64bit Win7 Pro filesystem did not like the v2.4 tags on some of my MP3s as well - while viewing music files in Windows Explorer.

Glad it worked out as an easy fix for you.

I'm on a Mac, and I never saw the issue with the file system. Like you, all but a few hundred of my tracks are ripped from CD to Apple Lossless. About 10 files are mp3, and the rest are purchased from iTunes. I've had this setup for several years prior to the Sonos, and I never had a problem with tags.

I've experienced this too. OS X 10.6.8. Strange.

Not strange at all. Fully understandable.

This appears to be a specific problem with MP3 files tagged/saved using ID3 v2.4. Apparently, not all systems support all 5 versions of 2.x. Seems like Sonos does not support v2.4.

The whole MP3 tagging structure is somewhat informal, anyway, so standardization across all systems should not be expected.

If you have problems with MP3s then first check the Tag version. If this is a new issue to you, then one could suspect the cause is:
a) You obtained/downloaded an MP3 from a source that tagged it with ID3v2.4
b) You ripped a CD with a music manager that (now) uses v2.4 - either by default or choice (maybe even with a recent upgrade)
c) You made an (intentional/unintentional) option change within the ripping software and selected v2.4
d) Other?

As stated in a prior post, just check your MP3s prior to playing them on Sonos, or just bulk-convert them to v.2.3 as you obtain them. Most Tag Editors (as well as iTunes) should be able to manage this.

Sonos has no problems with v2.3 tagged MP3s.

If you want to be fully bored, see the following:

Best of Luck
