I've got a new WAN ip address for my router.

I'm not having any problems with a tracert to wm-acl.bbc.co.uk

As an example I'm trying to play the "Wolf People" show from http://radiotime.com/program/p_11682...n_Surgery.aspx

This plays on my PC, but not via my Sonos.

I can also play this link from my PC for the show
http://stream.radiotime.com/listen.s...gQ%3d%7e%7e%7e

So I'm still somewhat confused as to what the problem might be for me.

I am 100% sure this is a BBC problem.

I listen to radio shows and podcasts from the US and UK and the only one I have ever - and I repeat EVER - had problems with is the BBC shows.

If there genuinely was a connection issue with RadioTime then it would impact on all shows, but that's not the case. If I get a problem with a BBC show I can immediately listen to a US based show and have no problems at all ... ever.

The fact that is an intermittent problem is a bit freaky, as if it were a Firewall/IP/GeoLocation issue then one would expect the problem to always happen, but that is not the case.

Having worked with the BBC on and off for over ten years my opinion is that it is the most bloated, most inefficient, most top-heavy company IN THE WORLD.

Which other broadcaster in the world gets GIVEN hundreds and hundreds of millions of pounds to spend every year.

If they are going to provide a listen again service then at least use some of the millions to get it right.

I love the BBC 4 content (and BBC 3 and 7 too) but I dislike the expensive bureaucracy.

Sorry :-) Rant over :-D

Default BBC Listen Again

Dear All

My wife listens to bbc podcasts, no problems. Now Radcliffe and Maconie have moved to Radio 6 afternoon we tried to get the listen again. All was fine for about an hour. Then it went silent, track still playing. i discovered that if I linked to another zone and then tried to drop the first zone, it would not drop immediately but after a few seconds the radio show started just as the zone dropped on the second zone. If I then re linked the first zone the radio show continued on for a few more mins and then went silent. i repeated this process a few times.

Why would dropping a zone get the radio station back again?

I had the same problem with a BBC Radio 6 show last week. After 1 hour, the stream went silent but was still 'playing', in that the time length was advancing. The way I got it to work again was to stop it for a minute or two and restart and skip to the 1 hour time mark.

I also had an issue when switching zones with the stream - selecting a new zone and deselecting the current zone - it would play for a short while on the new zone and then go silent, which was also quite annoying.

Default BBC Listen again improvement

Dear All

Does anybody know if the BBC has done something to improve the listen again. It seems to be a lot better and more reliable (it was stopping after an hour or so) now it keeps going and starts from where you left off. Obviously writing this here is the kiss of death and it won't work again...

Anybody else notice an improvement?

Default Radiotime Virgin Media

Dear All

Even though I reported a bit of improvement a few months ago, it really wasn't that good. Anyway I found a thread on the Virgin Media website http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...ce/td-p/324625 with the answer "I have checked your connection and have identified a local utilisation issue on your UBR (local router) which will cause your speed to slow during busy periods. I have passed this to our network teams to resolve". So I phoned them a couple of days ago and after being told local usage is at 76% and then telling them the colour of my router??, he said that the engineers would do something later that night. So last night for the first time, we were able to use the BBC listen again with no problems!! It sounded like they were going to "Rob Peter to pay Paul" to solve my problem. Any ideas how this could solve virgin media/radiotime?

Will report back if it was just a lucky night

Regards

Brazza

Hi
A really informative thread that encapsulates all the issues that I and my partner have had trying using BBC output through Sonos in the UK. I came to the same conclusion that it's the BBC's problem which they can't / won't fix. So we cut our losses and for other reasons as well bought a Sonos dock - we now use an iPhone or iPad with the BBC iPlayer app to access all BBC content - this seems to work much better so we use this in preference to the Sonos controller approach. Worth considering if you have the same equipment.

Dear All

Just a quick update - since the call to Virgin, 1 week now (see previous message), we have had no problems with the BBC listen again through radiotime! I hope it lasts

Default RadioTime BBC Listen again

Dear all

Well a few months have past and the listen again service from BBC has driven us mad. It works through Sonos occasionly (off peak internet times). Running the iplayer on the laptop and then into Sonos is better, but will cut out at really busy times.

The solution Radio Downloader a simple program that downloads the whole BBC show (not just the podcast version) Got a scheduler and everything.

Perfect
