Default Follow-me music ...

Hi,
When I return home from jogging, while listening to music on my iPhone, it would be nice if my Sonos system would (when arriving home) automatically take over playing the music I am/was listening to while jogging. The same applies to when I would use my iPhone to listen to music in my car.

What would be needed is: ... As soon as my iPhone is near my home (and on the local WiFi network), it should check iTunes on the iPhone for the current music "vector": Album/Song/Second. This vector should then be handed to the Sonos client to tell the Sonos system to start playing the specific song from the given album, starting "roughly" from the same point.

Of course, I can use the "AirPlay work around", but the above would be much more dynamic ...

Regards,
Erik Proper

It will never happen. Apple limits streaming from iTunes and iDevices to Airplay devices only. Although it would be quite easy to do, Apple's doesn't allow it, because it gets revenue from licensing and the Airplay chip.

However, what you wish to do is possible. If you purchase the WD100 dock, you can take your currently playing iPhone, slip it into the dock, and it will automatically start playing the same content on your Sonos sytem. But due to the artificial limitations listed above, this function is only possible via the dock.

Whoops, edit. I see you are requesting Sonos itself pick up where the iDevice left off, using the local library. That's different. Nice request, but I imagine the logistics are pretty steep.

Somewhat of a Rube Goldberg arrangement, but if iTunes is working through a playlist and could send a Twitt and SONOS could receive a Twitt, some sort of token could be passed to the SONOS system. The SONOS system would continue the playlist.

Well. I guess the main issue is if iTunes on an IOS device let's another app learn about its music vector (Album/Song/Position).

Then its a matter of transferring that vector to the "Sonos world" and ... presuming the Album+Song is in your library start playing at the given position.

Should the current iPlaylist be transferred to the SONOS system? If so, what happens to the current SONOS Queue? For that matter, which player should be the recipient? Should a SONOS system drop what it is doing and take up the iPhone's activity anytime an iPhone enters the area?

One solution might be a "bonded" playlist that is shared between the systems. The service would be activated when a "bonded" and currently playing playlist enters the area, but this would not protect me from a family member entering the area.

This seems possible if someone were to make an app that functioned as its own media player (like the apps in the appstore where you can download mp3s and listen to them in the same app), then when you connect to your home wifi, after a 30 second delay, the app's PC counterpart picks up the song and then changes the selected zone to its line-input...

Default follow me around the house

Would be nice if it could at least follow me around the house, I have several zone player which I control using mobile phone/tablet/itouch all capable of using bluetooth so it could detect if the controller get within range of each player and transfer output to the nearest

"At least" !!!

This is by far the most technically difficult thing to do.

Cheers,
