As we now need to run wifi for wireless control (where previously we could have simply relied on Sonosnet and a CR100/CR200) then interference problems will only become worse without this option.
Why would a fully wired Sonos system add "congestion to the already overcrowded 2.4GHz band?" If it is wired, then Sonos will choose the superior wired connection over wireless, and the wireless will be inactive 99% of the time.

I guess I could think of a few fringe cases where disabling wireless is desireable. For example, I have a ZP90 feeding an Outcast transmitter. I want to be sure that Sonos unit, or perhaps any others in _that room_, that are all hardwired, are not used to feed one of my 2 wireless units elsewhere in the house because of the potential interference.

This isn't really the case, but just giving a for-example.

Hi All

It is certainly possible to disable wireless. BUT – it will void warranty :-)
Remove the Wireless NIC.
I did this as a last desperate attempt – to get back to a working setup. Before the mod the system was really not usable due to frequent fallouts and lots of “network connection speed insufficient to maintain playback buffer” errors.

Sadly – Sonos support has not been helpful on this issue.

Question Why should you disable SONOS' main feature?

I'm reading this thread a little puzzled. If you really want to minimise RF SONOS seems to me not a really clever way to go. The main feature is the high quality RF network!

There are thousands of possibilities to make wired audio available in different locations, probably even a lot cheaper......

If you want a central library but no wireless transport best option in my opionion would be installing mediaservers (or PC's) in all rooms, all connecting with a network cable to a NAS..

Well - I disagree. There is nothing high quality about it.

Fact is that if that ZP is on the wireless mesh the whole 5 zone system just does not work. Wireless disabled on that ZP - and all is fine.

Forgive me, but that sounds like a classic STP problem where the BPDUs are being blocked on the wired network. If STP traffic is blocked the ZPs have no way of discovering the wired path and breaking the wired/wireless network loop

Your experience is not only unique, it is unprecedented on this forum. I know you stated that Sonos Support been no help to you, but given their stellar reputation, I have to question how much interaction you have had with them. There have been reports about Support like this before, but again, they are not very widespread and tend to have a backstory.
