Okay, another plea for help from a techie-challenged-old-gal in Ecuador.
I downloaded the latest update to my PC today. Since then I have been unable to access my Sonos system either through my computer or through my iPhone, which I use as a controller. I've reset the speaker and the bridge several times. I've reset my router, also several times. I receive the standard error message on both the PC and the iPhone..."Unable to play [xxx] because the server cannot be found." Can anybody help me resolve this? MISSING my music! Thanks loads, in optimistic anticipation. |

If by "reset" you mean "factory-reset" then you may have accidentally broken your Sonos system in two.
To start with, give your network a fresh start. Power everything off and restart in order: - router - wired Sonos devices - wireless Sonos devices - NAS (if you have one), wired computers and other wired devices - WiFi connected devices Wait for each device to reboot fully before moving to the next. If you're still unable to access your Sonos player from a PC wired to the router, or you get a "server not found" message, then come back here. |

THANK YOU for helping me Ratty!
No, I didn't "factory reset." Initially, I just pressed the reset buttons on the Play 3 and the bridge. That didn't work (several times), so I unplugged both, waited a few minutes, then plugged them back in. That didn't work. I just followed all your directions a few minutes ago...no difference...still receiving the same error message..."unable to play, server not found..." would be SO grateful to sort this out! Thanks again. |

The "reset" buttons you refer to (I take it you mean the Mute button on the Play:3) will only factory-reset the units if they're held down whilst applying power, and even then you must keeping pressing for ~15 seconds before the LED goes amber signalling a reset. This is just for info. Don't reset anything at this point.
Which Sonos controller are you using? How is that device connected to the network? Does the controller show the Play:3 in the Rooms menu? Which version of Windows is the PC with the music running? What anti-virus/firewall software do you have? |

Which Sonos controller are you using?
I'm using a 3Gs iPhone How is that device connected to the network? Hmmm, really not sure what you mean here, but will answer as best as I can. I downloaded a Sonos control app to my iPhone...does that make sense? As an aside I can no longer play the music from my PC either...same error message as when I try to use my iPhone. Does the controller show the Play:3 in the Rooms menu? It does not, but that's a new development. It did prior to downloading the update. Which version of Windows is the PC with the music running? Windows 7 Home Premium What anti-virus/firewall software do you have? I use Windows Firewall with advanced security and McAfee |

If the Play:3 is not showing up in the Rooms menu, then I'm puzzled as to how you're selecting it in order to play through it.
Temporarily wire the Play:3 to the Bridge. See if it then appears in the Rooms menu. If it does, see if it will play your music. Also go to Settings in your iPhone controller, look in About My Sonos System and report back on which out of the Bridge and Play:3 are listed. |

I had this same problem. Suddenly my Android controller would not see my music library, and on the PC client when I tried to "Update Music Library Now" I got an error that the "server could not be found." I'm running the newest 3.8 update, and everything worked fine until yesterday.
Here's what worked for me. Note that I did not need to factory reset anything. In the Sonos client on my PC I went to Manage/Settings/Music Library and removed the existing music folder. Then, I restarted the PC. After restarting I just went through the steps to setup the music library: Again, open the Sonos PC client, go to Manage/Settings/Music Library, then navigate to and add the folder containing your music library. This could take a few minutes. After I did this the client and my Android controller could see, and play my music library normally. I'm not sure how this happened. The only thing I did recently was to run a script (that I found on this forum!) to embed album artwork in my iTunes library so they could be seen by Sonos. Hope this works for you! |

The Controller, Bridge and the Play 3 are all listed in the iPhone settings. Still getting the same error. |

MDFU58...this old lady owes you a HUGE debt of gratitude...THANK YOU!!
I did exactly as you instructed (with more than a little fear, I have to say...), and have my music back on again. You are a TECHIE GENIUS!! How on earth did you figure out how to DO that!? I am so VERY grateful for your help! Deborah |
