If you put a manual volume control like that on one speaker you have to put them on them all...then your sonos controller just adjusts the master volume and you have to use the physical volume controls to balance between the different areas.

Honestly it works, but the best functionality you get is by having separate Connect:amps for each area.

Thanks ControlFreak.

Without wishing to appear too dumb, I assume I need to place some form of resistance (or whatever) in both circuit to create a balance?

The Connect:Amp option is looking all the more appealing...!

Information is a little sketchy about the B TECH control that you found. This type of control is more appropriate.

I recommend mounting a control in each room, but one can purchase a metal box containing multiple controls. The "best" solution depends on the physical wire routes. The disadvantage of a central cluster of controls is that one must travel to that cluster whenever making adjustments.

Purchasing another SONOS player may seem more expensive, but one should always include installation as part of that total cost. If your own labor is "free", controls are the least expensive solution.

That's the rule of thumb, if you want to put a control on 1 you have to put a control on every pair. After you try a system with multiple amps and a system with a single amp and volume controls you will quickly realize that buying separate amps makes for a much more enjoyable experience.

It's only money right?

I'm more interested in having all the controls in one place.

Do you guys think I could use a product like the Niles SSVC-4, instead of the in wall volume controls?

www[dot]nilesaudio[dot]com/product.php?prodID=SSVC-4&recordID=Speaker%20Selectors%20with%20Volume%20C ontrols&categoryID=Speaker%20Selectors&catcdID=7&p rdcdID=FG01043

Sorry due to my low post count I am unable to post the link correctly.

Welcome to the forum.

If you really want to have the controls co-located with the amp, that Niles unit will do the job.

Connect AMP arrived and installed and you were dead right - don't know why I even thought the volume control was a good idea!

Thanks again

Thanks for the reply NoBoB. Yeah I think I'm going this route because I want to keep access restricted.

Ya sure can, it's just not too user friendly since you have to go back to the box to balance between zones. At least that one has on/off for every zone.

I use those more in restaurants where they are rarely played with.

Now that you have a taste of discrete amps you won't ever want to touch a VC!
