Hi,

I always scan my covers and add them to my rips. I use Sonos on my iPad and came to the conclusion that the covers are loading slowly. How do I optimize this? I read that the max file size is 256kb and 1024x1024 forimage size. What do you use size / kb. How fast is the cover art loading?

The current max filesize is now 320KB for some iDevices.

As Sonos does not cache Album Art for fast retrieval & display, smaller sizes may be quicker for you.

It will depend on your local network speed, size of file and network congestion.

I now use 600x600 sized artwork and lower the filesize to below 200KB.

Thanks for answering my question.

I did some testing and now i store my artwork with a resolution of 500x500. The cover is about 100kb in file size. When i launch Sonos on iOS the artwork is now loading with a acceptable speed.

Why bother? Unless you have some old or obscure vinyls I've always found decent jpegs on Amazon or Google images for every CD I've ripped, much less bother

I'd echo the "why scan" question.

I've found that Amazon has poorer quality album pics that what can be found elsewhere.

My preferred album pic procurement tree is as follows:

1st - iTunes (yes, iTunes).
If iTunes can find artwork for your tagged music file, it will come down as a 600x600 sized quality jpeg at between 70KB to 450KB.

iTunes' standard method for storing downloaded artwork does not work for viewing via Sonos. I will drag the artwork from iTunes to my desktop, possibly editing the file for total size (to below 150-200KB). I'll "clear" all downloaded artwork from within iTunes and then drag the jpeg file back into the music file. This works great and is quite easy once you get the process down.

2nd - I will use this site for finding album art not found by iTunes:

One may still need to reduce the overall filesize of the image as needed. This site has some very high quality artwork up to 1,000x1,000 sized images

3rd - Google Images for the artwork

Windows users may want to give Album Art Downloader XUI a try before going to Google. It searches a bunch of album art specific websites (not AlbumArtExchange, but it does search iTunes and Google) and displays all the results so you can pick which one you like best. There's a huge range of size and quality of cover scans out there, and I've found it a nice way to pick the one I like best, even matching a particular cover for a release, like remasters or Mobile Fidelity or whatever.

It's more manual than dbPowerAmp or Bliss, but gives a lot more specific control and choices, if you're willing to spend some time with it.
