It's definitely not the hardest to setup. What scares people away from them is they come naked and empty.
You have to install the drive yourself...so make sure you have a #1 phillips screw driver. And you have to install the firmware yourself. This is easy if you RTFM! After that is done the settings in the software are VERY well laid out and VERY well documented...it's just not a plug n' run system like the WD. Time Capsules are weak...

I'm going to take another look at the Qnap then.
Was looking at a router and NAS combo as I need both and saw the D-Link 685 which looks good, just a shame it can't go more than a measly 500GB ![]() Also a Netgear WNDR4700 but no idea on release, cost and what it's like

Dlink is trash.
WNDR3700 is tried tested and true... and can be had for peanuts. |

What experience do you base your sweeping statement on? I have a DNS 320 with 2x 1Tb Samsung drives in Raid 1 config. which has been streaming flawlessly to my Sonos as well as performing as my media and docs. backup since I installed it last November. Yes it's cheap and cheerful but it works!

Sonos simply uses the SMB/CIFS file sharing service which all conventional NASes run by default. |

To expand on ratty's reply, Twonky can be used to stream/make your media files available to other network connected devices you may have which are DLNA or UPNP capable. Examples might be a smart TV, your mobile phone, dumb media streamer etc.
