I rip and manage my library using iTunes. When iTunes assigns the wrong genre to an album, changing it has always resulted with the new genre showing up in the Sonos data after updating the music index.
While looking at the Sonos listing under Genre, I found one album as unclassifiable. I look at the info for that album in iTunes and it says jazz. Updating the Sonos music index does not result in a change for this album -- it still shows up in the genre listing as unclassifiable. Is there some "trick" to getting the Sonos genre changed? |

This kind of behaviour can be caused by another file somewhere on the shares having the same artist/album/title tags. When two files have identical primary tags, either could get indexed into the library.
Look for a file with the same artist/album/title tags. If your music store is on a NAS then check the "trashbox" folder if it has one. Sometimes the pre-edit version of a file can end up in there. Another possible reason is that the file's modified timestamp has not been changed by the edit operation. In this case Sonos will ignore it during a library update operation, and it will be necessary to remove and re-add the share. Last edited by ratty; Aug 28th, 2010 at 09:36 AM. |

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll look for problems with the file names on my NAS (HP MSS).

A quick and dirty way to figure out the location of a file is to power off the NAS, then ask a Sonos controller to play the suspicious track on any ZP. The controller should put out an error message containing the full network pathname. |
