Hello,
I purchased a Play 5 last week and yesterday purchased a Play 3 for the bedroom as I was so impressed with it. I am now contemplating a NAS drive to put all our music on. I have 2 ports in my router and currently have the bridge in one and an ethernet cable connected from my Sky+ HD box ( I am in the UK). To connect the NAS drive, would it be possible just to connect it into the back of the bridge at the available port, or do I need to do something else? Thanks in advance. |

Welcome to the forums.
Yes indeed. Any Ethernet port on a Sonos device is suitable for connecting a NAS. They all extend your local network. You could, if you prefer, wire the NAS to your Play:5 or Play:3. Download/streaming would work just fine. Upload speeds to the NAS would however be compromised by the Sonos wireless. |

Brilliant. Thank you for your prompt responses. I absolutely love this equipment, so easy to use and looks great too.

If you are looking at expanding the wired devices at all you could always add a network switch to connect the nas, and any future devices.... Like a smart TV, blueray etc......
Even if you don't do it now, eventually, that would give you the ability to expand the network. <G> |

. What is a network switch and how do I fit it and where? I need to buy a 3D bluray sometime and was thinking of getting Apple TV, so if it helps, then I may as well do it now.

Mrboofs,
Unlike phone wires, one cannot simply twist the network wires together as you add devices. One must use a "network switch" to add more devices on the network. In some ways you can think of the switch as an outlet strip for networks. |
