Hi,
I did have a check through the Sound Ideas forum but didn't see this idea posted already. If it has then please ignore me and apologies :)

Idea:
How about a small portable headphone amp which appears as a Zone Player? Something with a decent rechargeable battery (and charge doc? could charge from the Controller dock?), fairly small, with just volume, mute/unmute button like the other sonos equipment and maybe a play/pause button.

You would still use the sonos controller (or iphone/touch/andronos app) to control the player. I suppose it is like a mini, portable, ZP120 for headphones.

WDYT?

Thanks,
maybe it's useful for someone who want to hide these players in the livingroom too.

This could be a siren or even a voice coming in over the Siren staying something like;
"A burglary is in progress! Security has been notified and is on the way!"

This could be a scriptable function which be engaged from home automation equipment so that Sonos becomes an active part when an alarm goes off.

I'm hoping something like this could scare off a burglar or even alert neighbors who seem immune to alarms nowadays :)

Fuel for thoughts

When searching for a track, you sometimes find the track is available on a number of different albums.
It would be great if you could then select the album from which the track is featured.
I have found when looking for older classics, the album from which the track is featured would contain other material which I would like to listen to but there doesn't seem a short cut to then select the album.
If this was possible, it would really improve the seach facilities when using Napster I feel.

When browsing to 'Album' or 'Composer\Album' for an album title that is not unique (such as "Greatest Hits" or "Symphony No. 9"), the controllers show a merged view of all albums with that title. Instead, it could present the 'Artist' level for the user to select which Greatest Hits or what performance of the symphony he wants to hear.

I am running into this limitation of the browsing menu while gradually turning my collection into FLAC. There is no way to structure the classical material with the controller's current menu (other than mutilating the Album tag to contain both Album and Artist which is a nasty workaround at best). See http://forums.sonos.com/showthread.php?p=108858

The problem is that there is no client-side caching of track metadata in the event that Last.fm's servers are unresponsive or one's Internet connection has temporarily gone on walkabout.

This means that one can easily lose sizeable chunks of listening data, because no state is maintained by the ZP. This happens to me quite frequently, as it appears that Last.fm experiences heavy traffic during the European evening.

Would it be possible to implement a small client-side cache in which to keep scrobbler data until it can be successfully uploaded? I actually haven't come across any other scrobbler implementations that don't implement this.

At the moment I'm experimenting with having the sleep timer on 1 hour so that the screen is mostly on whilst listening. I'm not sure what the battery life will be like though.

What I'd like is to be able to set the screen to come back on for each new track that plays so that I don't have to move the screen and wait for it to catch up with the track list etc. This would automatically switch the screen on when it changes to the next track.

This could be an extra option to the existing sleep settings.

Please, please consider making one of these. I would buy it in a heartbeat! Heck if you put a ipod dock on it too -- I'm sure it would sell like hot cakes for anyone who has already invested in Sonos products and would be a great way to get a new base of customers that have not bought in to Sonos!

Last suggestion today, I promise.

How about using the mic in the iphone to allow for room\speaker calibration per some of the high end AV amps? - it would be nice to say stand approx in the centre of the room or y far from the speakers & press the calibrate button. This should then be able to set the EQ, loudness and volume so all zones are set equivelently. Thus when you group zones together & slide the volume up & down you dont have to faff around trimming each of the individual volumes.

cheers!
