So I bought a playbar :) My first SONOS !

While I am waiting for the unit to be delivered, I would like to seek some advice on how best to set it up given my requirements and would certainly appreciate any inputs I can get.

I will be using this to complement my projector. The challenge, however is that the playbar will be mounted on the wall and the projector (and PS3, HTPC) are at the other end of the room. The way I see it, either I need to get a device to send HDMI over wireless to projector (if I move the sources close to the playbar) or send audio over wireless to an optical receiver that terminates into the playbar.

Has anyone experimented with a similar setup ? If yes, would you have any recommendations, pros and cos for me to consider. I would be very keen to know about the device used (HDMI over wireless or audio over wireless) that was used. While I did find some options for beaming HDMI (Iogear, belkin) but couldn't find anything that sends audio over wireless and terminates at the receiver into optical. I did find a few devices, but they are limited to only one source (PC) and output at receiver is RCA.

While I do understand that this is not really a SONOS query, at the same time, since playbar supports only one source I am sure some folks may have run into similar issues at some point.

Thanks

I have a few Sonos clients who live far away and I've been looking for a means of being able to expand their systems in as seamless a way as possible (ideally, shipping them a unit already activated and named on their home system).

One option is to program an extra bridge when I set up their system, put their name on it, and keep it in a drawer. When they order a new player in the future I could simply plug in that bridge, use it to add the new unit and be off and running.

For space and cost reasons I'd prefer to do something that didn't require dedicating extra equipment, so I got to wondering whether I could capture the settings from a PC -- either a real or virtual one.

Since I can add a component from the desktop software, would there be anything to prevent me from using an installed and linked desktop application to give future units the same Household ID and thus send them to the client ready to plug and play. But does anyone know which file(s) or registry settings Sonos is using to keep that info so that I could just keep the settings for ALL my Sonos installs? That way I could keep a setup for each of my out-of-town Sonos clients without needing to dedicate an (otherwise unused) PC to it. Alternatively I might also try it with a virtual machine which could be kept in ~5 GB of hard drive space.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Is there a way to set the volume "range" for the total system to 25 or 50%, so that the volume control uses more of the bar and is easier? (at least easier than trying to manage it in a very narrow range as it is now).

I have a Sonos system comprising a bridge and two Play 3s. They were connected to a router properly and worked for over a year. We controlled them with an iPad and an iPhone (and also have Desktop software installed, although we never use it).

Recently, the system stopped working. It now says the components are not detected and I can't seem to reconnect them using the bridge button or the buttons on the Play3s. This is the case regardless of which of the three controllers we try.

I reinstalled the desktop controller and the iPhone app, to no avail. I powered the bridge off by unplugging from the mains. None of the cables appear to have been displaced, and our internet connection is working fine.

The desktop is a Windows 7 PC using Norton Antivirus 2013. I doubt it's a firewall issue as no changes to the computer were made around the time that it stopped working, but I'm happy to give it a try if someone can walk me through it. (I found some Sonos help guide info on firewalls but could only find Windows XP/Vista and Norton Internet Security 2013 firewall information, neither of which had the same dialogs as my computer.)

Any suggestions appreciated---this is driving me mad!

Ok - i'm the author of my own destruction here, but here goes...

I recently bought a Playbar, sub etc and subsequently found out my TV doesn't have Optical Out. Spend that much cash and the whole "let's get a new TV" conversation puts Wifezilla in full teeth and claws mode. Not to worry, I have a switch on the way (CYP 4 Way Optical Audio Switcher). It'll work but its annoying how such a simple system becomes very complicated very quickly if its not set up as its supposed to be.

Currently though I have the cable TV box plugged directly into the Playbar (Apple TV, DVD can wait their turn).

Here's the issue: some channels put sound out at 100,000 decibels and others at a whisper - which is strange when under non-Sonos operation this does not happen (cable TV is from du in UAE) - there must be a difference in audio signals from the box (mixture of HD and non HD channels).

Is there any way to equalise the sound, like iTunes does with SoundCheck, for the cable box?
I suspect there is no software solution: is there (sigh) another box I can plug into the Gordian mess under the TV to accomplish this?

Cheers!

Hallo,

Michael
